Stay and remote work: checking status in Bali
Remote work is not one tick box in an application. The nature of work, counterparty, client location, payer, your role and the basis for staying in Indonesia all matter. Until those are separated, even the right visa name does not provide a useful answer.
What is officially confirmed on the check date?
A current official service table includes E33G, labelled as a limited-stay visa for remote workers, in the two-year initial-stay column. This confirms that the label exists in the current table. It does not automatically answer whether it fits you, how your activity is classified, which documents are needed or what is permitted in your circumstances.
Short answer
First describe the work in five lines: what you do, for whom, where the counterparty is, how payment works and whether you will have any local activity. Then separate that question from visa, stay permit, tax, company and property. Only then compare E33G and other current official paths with live conditions, not advice from a chat.
Evidence scope
- Checked on
- 2026-10-15
- Geography
- Bali, Indonesia; a route depends on live official conditions and the actual activity of the individual.
- Audience
- A person planning to live in Bali and work remotely who wants to separate the questions correctly first.
- Established
- The current official service table includes E33G for remote workers; visa and stay permit are distinct.
- Not established
- The fitting category, work permission, activity classification, tax or company status, documents, duration, extension, approval or property rights for an individual.
Describe the work so it can be reviewed
The phrase “I work for myself online” hides more than it explains. Write down role, services, clients or employer, counterparty location, payment source, duration and any local part of the activity. This is not needless complexity. Without this map, a stay question cannot be separated from the nature of the work itself.
E33G is a starting point, not a ready verdict
The official table does use E33G for remote workers. But a table label does not replace current conditions, personal facts, documents or a review of how your actual activity relates to the route. Do not use it as a promise of general permission for any activity performed through a laptop.

Plan entry and stay on separate lines
The official Ngurah Rai page describes a visa as a basis for travel and a stay permit, while the stay permit itself is a separate permission to remain in Indonesia. A plan therefore needs different columns: intended entry, current basis for stay, date to recheck conditions and possible later actions.

Do not merge status, company and tax into one consultation
An immigration question needs a concrete outcome: which category is being checked now and which documents belong to it. The activity question needs its own outcome: how work is described and which separate rules may apply. Tax or company questions form another line. The word remote does not permit one honest answer across all three.

A coworking space or villa does not issue permission
Bali is chosen for lifestyle, and that is a normal part of a decision. But a housing address, rental or property purchase does not establish immigration status by itself. If property is also in the plan, keep a separate property card and do not use stay status as a substitute for reviewing rights, contract or approvals.

FAQ
Does E33G let me do any work from Bali?
Do not make that inference from the name. Review the actual activity and live official conditions as they apply to you.
Can I work from a rented villa?
A residential address does not answer the immigration question about activity by itself. Review status and the nature of work first, then housing and property conditions separately.
Do I need to buy property for remote work?
Do not join these decisions automatically. Stay, work and property rights require different materials and reviews.
