First 30 days after moving in Bali
The first days after a move create an odd illusion: everything feels urgent because everything is new. In reality, only what affects status, decision safety or money is urgent. The rest is better given a week of observation, rather than turning a random first impression into permanent life.
Reader question
How can you get through the first month in Bali without missing what matters or treating every small domestic issue as an emergency?
Practical guidance
First, record what is already confirmed and what is not. Then test an ordinary week: home, route, spending and services. By month end, keep only the points that truly change the address, contract or next step — not every surprise from the first two days.
Scope of this guide
This is an order of questions for the first month and the limits of general sources. It contains no immigration-status instruction, legal advice, personal budget, medical recommendation, service promise or assessment of a particular home.
Evidence scope
- Checked on
- 2026-10-15
- Geography
- Bali and Indonesia; a personal result depends on status, date, address, contract and confirmation for the specific scenario.
- Established
- The Directorate General of Immigration has an official portal and electronic services.
- BPS Bali publishes dated regional statistical context.
- Not established
- Status, work right, a particular service, housing, budget, health, contract or application outcome.
1. On day one, make a map of unknowns rather than a task list
Split everything into three columns: confirmed by document or terms; confirmed by a person but still needs checking; and unknown. The list quickly shows what can wait and what cannot. A view from the window rarely decides the first month, while a living term, payment process or next essential route may well do so.
Do not try to clear every column in one evening. It is more useful to record the source and date for each answer. A week later, you can distinguish a real fact from a sentence said during move-in.
2. Do not decide status from a retelling
Immigration questions have an official entry point: the Directorate General of Immigration portal and its electronic services. Use it to take your question to the current official source. It does not let this page determine your status, timing, work right or application outcome.
If the question affects your plans, frame it separately from housing and everyday life: who you are, purpose, dates, records already held and what is still missing. Do not add assumptions from a group chat; they create confidence, not a basis.

3. Let the home live through an ordinary week
The first evening in a home rarely reveals what an ordinary Tuesday will. Test the morning exit, return, delivery, work from home, spending, a critical service and a moment with no backup plan. Not to find a perfect option, but to see which question changes the decision about the address.
BPS Bali’s regional statistics are useful as dated background, not as an answer about your home. Personal spending, routes, services and housing terms still need to be checked for the specific scenario.

4. At month end, keep only decisions
Return to the initial map of unknowns. Some points will have disappeared: you used the route, received a record, checked a payment process. Others will have become more precise. Choose which ones change the contract, budget, area or need for a separate check. That is a sensible outcome for the first month.
If you are ready to buy, do not carry the comfort of one good month into the transaction. A purchase needs its own records and review. If you are renting, record only the terms that were actually confirmed, not those that feel ‘normal for Bali’.
Decision steps
- Map the unknowns
Separate records and confirmed points from words and open questions.
- Check status separately
Do not merge status questions with an address, rental or advice from a chat.
- Live an ordinary week
Test what will repeat: route, home, spending and services.
- Keep the decisions
By month end, isolate points that change the next term or action.

FAQ
What really needs to happen immediately after a move?
What depends on a date, record, status, commitment or the safety of your decisions. Record the remaining domestic points first and test them through an ordinary week. This page does not determine individual obligations.
Where should I check a status or electronic-service question?
Start with the official Directorate General of Immigration portal and its current services. Frame your scenario separately; the existence of a portal does not confirm your result.
Must I decide in the first month whether to stay in this home long term?
Not necessarily. The month’s job is to produce sound questions and observations. Tie a decision to terms, time horizon and what has been confirmed, not to the fatigue of the first week.
