Contract language and dispute process in Bali
A contract is read differently in a dispute than in a presentation. Before signature, it should be clear which text version governs, how parties receive notices and what path is provided if a promise is not met.
What should be checked before signature?
Language law and an arbitration framework exist at statutory level, but they do not automatically answer for your agreement. Reconcile language versions, priority rule, governing law, notices, escalation steps and the exact forum wording.
The short answer
Do not sign text you cannot read as a chain of commitments: who does what, when, what proves result, what happens on delay and where a dispute goes. A translation for understanding should not silently replace the contractual version.

- Established
- An arbitration framework and BANI rules exist.
- Not established
- Validity, governing law or outcome of a particular agreement.
First make one readable text
Compare parties, asset, price, currency, dates, schedules and signatures across versions. Do not accept “it is only a translation” without a written place for that version in the agreement.
A dispute is an operational route
A dispute clause is useful when it reads as a route: who receives notice, how long a response has, what happens next and which forum wording was chosen. Arbitration law and BANI rules provide a framework, but do not replace review of your clause.

- BANI Arbitration Rules
An unclear clause is a reason for hold
If delay, refusal, refund or language consequences cannot be explained, that is not minor legal style. Ask the party to name the version and propose clear wording before commitment.
